The night begins as the Parish of San Miguel Arcangel lights up, San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, on Friday, October 6, 2023. Known as one of the most beautiful examples of architecture throughout Mexico. (Georgia York/ Conestoga College Journalism)

The base of this church dates back to the 17th century, but the added peaks on the church (which is not shown in this picture) were added in the 1800s by a local stonemason, Zeferino Gutierrez. The city is filled with unique architecture that ranges from Baroque to neo-Gothic. European Gothic cathedrals inspired the iconic building and it marks the tallest building in the city. The first thing your eye goes to is this extraordinary church but the culture that flows through the streets is the true gift.

San Miguel has over 40 chapels inside city limits, many of which are centuries old. Locals and tourists walk the streets admiring the hidden shops and restaurants giving you a unique experience no matter where you end up.
